Working with Notes and Note Boards

How to work with notes, note boards, or storyboards and beat templates in corkboard and timeline views.

1. How to use AutoCrit Notes.

With the note side panel open, you can create new notes and note boards by clicking the appropriate + link as shown here:

You can export all notes to .docx using this button:

2. How to create Note boards.

When creating a new note board, you can choose between a blank board or load a board with pre-built notes from one of AutoCrit's templates as shown here:

There are two note board styles, 'Corkboard' and 'Timeline'.

The Corkboard view looks like this:

The Timeline view looks like this:

*A Timeline style note board allows you to add new rows and columns with one touch and move them around.

3. What are the different View options for Note Boards in AutoCrit?

You can view your notes in the side view, or expand to a full screen view for more editing options. Each note also has a settings menu where you can change the note color, export the contents to a document, copy, or delete the note.

3.1 Side view

This view allows you to keep your notes alongside your document:

3.2 View options in your Side view

Clicking this icon for a single note view allows you to widen your notes to read more text alongside your manuscript

Clicking this icon, for a side-by-side note view allows you to narrow your notes to fit more in your side view panel.

With AutoCrit's latest update, you can fit even more notes into your side view!

3.3 Full Screen View


You can enlarge each note to edit in a full screen view by clicking this icon:

On full screen view, you can add formatting to your note text.

This view also allows you to add tags to your notes to make searching and filtering easier.

3.4 Notes Overview

You can view your notes in overview mode for more focused planning and note management by clicking here:

4. How to use Corkboards.

You can move corkboard notes around by clicking this icon:

​Example:

You can create a copy of the whole Corkboard by clicking these 3 dots and clicking "Copy".

This will copy the whole note board and its all its notes.

Clicking the 3 dots on individual notes also gives you the option to change the color, delete, copy, export your note, or view it in Full Screen view.

5. How to use Timelines.

Timeline note boards have options for altering the note board's width and length.

To add a new row click here

You can add rows above or below the row you're working in by clicking the top or bottom + icon.

To add a new column click here

This will instantly add a new column to the right with a default name. Columns can be added on either side of your current column.

To move your row upwards or downwards you can use these arrows:

To move your column to the left or right you can use these arrows:

To change column and row titles you can click this icon next to the name of your row or column respectively.

Column titles can be changed, but only rows can change both colors and titles.

Notes can be moved around on a Timeline note board by dragging and dropping them while clicking this icon as well.

6. What are Templates?

AutoCrit provides a range of useful templates to assist you. You can add them to your note boards when creating note boards.

Once you've selected a template it will be automatically loaded to your chosen note board style.

This is a Corkboard with templates added:

Timeline noteboards will have templates pre-loaded.
