There are definitely a number of different ways to attack the editing process. If you don't already have a favorite editing path, we recommend trying a few methods to see what's a good fit.

That being said, many of our users have found the following approach, using AutoCrit reporting, to be successful:

1. Listen to your dialogue first

Dialogue is one of the most critical sections of your writing. Is your dialogue really speaking to your audience? Are you using dialogue tags properly? What about adverbs in dialogue?

2. Repetition, repetition, repetition.

Here you should be able to clean up words and phrases that you use too often and too close together, making your writing boring and predictable.

3. Summary Report

Use this report to find out where you have gone “way over” the limit with the use of certain groups of indicator words and sentence patterns. This report is best used as a navigation tool to access the specific inline reports for each category.

If this reports seems a bit overwhelming, start with "easy" reports such as adverbs, generic descriptions, and unnecessary filler words to gather editing momentum.
