Here are common issues that might occur when uploading your manuscript and how to resolve them:
Large File Size
Files over 200,000 words may cause your browser to time out. To fix this, split your manuscript into smaller files using a text editor, or copy and paste smaller sections directly into a blank AutoCrit document.
Incompatible File Type
AutoCrit supports MS Word (.docx), Rich Text (.rtf), and Plain Text (.txt) files. If your manuscript is in another format, convert it to one of these before uploading.
File Formatting Issues
Hidden formatting code from some programs can cause upload errors or issues in AutoCrit. Try these steps:
Copy your manuscript into a .txt file or plain text editor to strip any hidden formatting.
Reformat and save the cleaned-up file before uploading.
If the problem persists, contact customer support for assistance.
Images or Graphic Elements
Images, symbols, or decorative breaks (like dinkuses) can delay uploads or cause errors. Remove these elements, then upload your manuscript again. You can add these back into your document once your manuscript is in the program.
Foreign or Unsupported Fonts
Some fonts may not be compatible with AutoCrit. Switch your manuscript’s font to a standard one like "Times New Roman" or "Arial" before uploading. Afterward, you can choose a similar font in AutoCrit.
Tables or Graphs
Complex tables or graphs might not upload correctly. Remove these elements from your file, then add them back after uploading if needed.
Headers and Footers
Certain header/footer text or page number formatting may be incompatible with AutoCrit. Removing these elements often resolves the issue.
