Two Ways to Improve Your EPUB/PDF Exports

These steps should help improve your formatting by clearing out incompatible hidden formatting code in your file.

Sometimes formatting that's already in your file can cause conflicts with the formatting applied in AutoCrit when you export your document using the EPUB and PDF export options.

Here are two ways to clear the formatting from your file before retrying the AutoCrit epub/pdf export options:

Option One - The AutoCrit Clear Formatting Function

1. Use the Save As feature to create a duplicate file. This helps in case the first option doesn't work, and saves you from having to reapply formatting later. It's always best to work with a duplicate file instead of your original when doing bulk formatting changes.

Follow the steps in this post to create a duplicate file for exporting if you do not know how to use the Save As feature: How to Use the Save As Feature to Create a Duplicate File

2. Once you have your duplicate file, select all your text with Ctrl + A (Cmd + A on Mac devices), and then click the clear formatting icon in the toolbar:

This will clear out all the formatting in your file, giving you a clean slate to work with to set up your formatting for the PDF/EPUB export.

Option Two - Export and Re-upload

The previous option will remove all bold and italicized text; it will also reset all your headers, if you have any, to paragraph-type text. If you want to avoid that, you could try exporting your file as a .docx from AutoCrit and then re-uploading it (just uploading the same exported file again) to your Writer's Desk.

This method will clear out any incompatible formatting in the file, keep your italic, bold, and header formatting in place, and give you a file that should export better with the epub/pdf export options.

1. To do this, click the export option under the save icon here, then click Export (.docx) at the top:

2. Then, return to your Projects area by clicking the AutoCrit icon here.

3. In your Projects area, click the upload option here, then upload the file you just exported.

4. Then follow the instructions on this pop-up to add your file again.

The reuploaded version of your file should work better with the export to PDF/EPUB features because it will have removed all the incompatible formatting, while leaving your italic, bold, and header formatting in place.
