If you intend to use several different programs together, here are our recommendations:
1. Minimize formatting during drafting and editing.
Avoid using first-line indents, special fonts, embedded images, or any elements outside of standard text and punctuation until your final formatting stage.
β
Different programs handle formatting in different ways, and transferring files between them can result in issues such as lost or altered formatting, unexpected extra spacing, or incorrect indentations.
β
Even when formatting appears to be removed, hidden formatting code can remain in the file and re-activate when imported into another program, causing display problems that you will feel the need to correct every time you make the switch.
βInstead of image elements for scene breaks, use text-based indicators like ***, which transfer cleanly across platforms.
Leaving all formatting until the final publishing stage will save you time and reduce complications.
2. Always use the .docx export and upload options.
Export your files from AutoCrit as .docx files, then upload them to your next tool.
βLikewise, when moving work back into AutoCrit, export your file from the other program as a .docx and upload it into AutoCrit.
This method ensures compatibility and proper integration, whereas copying and pasting between programs often carries hidden formatting code that can interfere with analysis tools and create technical issues.
Following these steps will help maintain clean files and ensure a smoother workflow across all the platforms you use, while minimizing formatting-related problems.
