AutoCrit is a web-based application, but working offline is no longer an issue. With its latest update, you can take your work anywhere—no internet needed! This means you'll never lose your progress, even during travel or unexpected disconnections.

Here are some quick links to navigate the article

How to Enable Offline Mode

To make your files available offline follow these steps:

  1. When the file is open click the Save Icon in the top right-hand corner:

  2. Then check the box to make your file Available Offline in the save menu.

When you see the box checked in green, your file is ready to be accessed without an internet connection.

Accessing Your Files Offline

You can do the same with multiple files and access them from your Writer's Desk offline.

  1. After setting them as Available Offline, click the icon, here, to return to your projects area.

Working on the Go

If you are traveling, or have an unreliable internet connection, as long as you do not close your browser, you can keep your Writer's Desk active despite the interruptions in connectivity. Follow these steps to take your creativity on the go:

Windows Laptops

  1. Before you leave, ensure that you've set your files as "Available Offline". If you need to see the instructions click HERE.

  2. Leave your browser open on your AutoCrit file or minimize it, but do not close your browser.

  3. Do not shut down your device. This will close your applications including your browser.

  4. Click the Windows icon to open the Start menu.

  5. Click the power icon and then click the Sleep option.

  6. Your laptop will suspend all activity, but your browser and all applications will remain active.

  7. When you reach your transportation, open your laptop log in and your Offline files and Writer's Desk will be available.

  8. When you restore your connection, any text you've added will sync with your Writer's Desk so you can carry on online.

Macbooks

  1. Verify that your files are set as “Available Offline”. If you need to see the instructions click HERE.

  2. Open your web browser and load your AutoCrit file. Either leave the browser open or minimize it - do not quit or close it, as that would end your session.

  3. Avoid shutting down your MacBook because doing so would close all your applications, including your browser.

  4. Click the Apple menu in the top‑left corner of your screen.

  5. Select Sleep from the drop‑down menu.
(Alternatively, simply close the lid of your MacBook to put it to sleep.)

  6. When you arrive at a place fit to continue writing: Open the lid or press a key to wake your MacBook.

  7. Log in and your offline files and AutoCrit file will be exactly as you left them.

  8. Once you restore your network connection, any text or changes you made while offline will automatically sync with your Writer’s Desk, allowing you to continue your work seamlessly.

Tip: Views are also available offline, so you can switch to dark mode, and minimal mode as necessary in the editing area.

Please note that these features do not work with shared files.

While offline, you will not be able to use any AutoCrit reports, dictation/text reading features, or AI-based features like the Fiction Analyzer and Story Builder. However, you can set reports to show in your text so that they're visible in your file and you can continue editing.

  1. Run the report in your Writer's Desk.

  2. Click the Show All option.

  4. Go offline and continue editing with the highlights in place.

The report results will remain visible in your file so you can work on them while disconnected.

Tip: You can use the save-as feature to rename your file after a report so you know what you're editing while offline or leave yourself a bookmarked note.
