AutoCrit keeps words written inside AutoCrit separate from words you report writing outside of AutoCrit. This prevents the same words from being counted twice and helps keep your writing progress accurate.
AutoCrit Word Count
If you're writing directly inside AutoCrit, there's nothing you need to do. AutoCrit automatically tracks the words you write in the program and adds them to your progress.
Self-Reported Word Count
If you're writing somewhere outside of AutoCrit, you can manually report those words.
When reporting your progress, you'll have two options:
Add Words
Use this option when you already know how many new words you've written. For example, if you wrote 2,000 words today, enter 2,000 and click Add. AutoCrit will add those 2,000 words to your self-reported total.
Set Total
Use this option when you know the current total word count of the file you're working on instead.
For example, imagine your file contained 15,000 words yesterday and now contains 17,000 words. Enter 17,000 as your new total. AutoCrit will compare that with your previous total of 15,000 and automatically record the 2,000-word difference as today's progress.
Which option should I use?
Choose whichever method is easiest for you:
Add Words if you know how many new words you wrote.
Set Total if you prefer to enter your manuscript's current total and let AutoCrit calculate the difference.
You only need to use one method when reporting those words. Both options are simply different ways of recording the same self-reported writing progress.
Remember, self-reporting is only necessary for writing completed outside of AutoCrit. Words written directly in AutoCrit are tracked for you automatically.
Happy Writing!
